Brad Reed Nelson has a BFA in Functional Design from Murray State
University and an MFA in Sculpture from Arizona State University.
His interest in art began with his interest in fashion and fashion
design. However it was not in fashion design that he found
his art form but in creating furniture with a stylized remix of the
qualities he finds alluring in today’s pop culture; androgyny,
ambiguity, sexuality, form, function, and style. By embracing
the ideals of this generation he attempts to capture its cultural
values. Taking inspiration from its music, fashion, architecture
and attitude he creates cohesive forms that embody these elements.
Brad Reed Nelson has his studio “Board by Design”, in Aspen
Colorado. He came to Aspen 4 years ago to teach at Anderson Ranch
Arts Center and later to become the Center’s interim Furniture
Program Director. One thing led to another making Aspen his
home were he happily lives with his wife and 3 chipmunks.
